"I found him sitting on a rocking chair, the famous Wolkirk... a seat befitting a granny, his gaze lost, probably high on some assassin's drug, balancing a dagger on his finger. I told him there was someone he needed to kill. He didn't rise to meet me, he probably didn't even realize who I was... he just asked, 'How many times?'" - Ludwig Marsh, Suvan general |

Wolkirk, usually known as Wolkirk the Slayer, is a very powerful undead creature. Formerly the best assassin in Suvan before the Valterrian, he killed Emperor Kovinus of Alahea and his wife among many others. Banished to the Void in the fight by Alahean Court Mage Sagallius Hrinn - an epic battle that cost the wizard the terrible price of insanity by overgiving - he was offered a second chance by the god of the undead, Uldr, as a Desolate One, a wraith-like creature of great power.
Wolkirk was a bloodthirsty psychopath during his life, someone whose only drive and talent lay in the killing of others. These traits are further augmented in his current state. He serves Uldr as his champion and leader of his most loyal faction, the Returned, furthering Uldr's vision of a world completely devoid of natural life and ruled by the undead.
Biography
When it comes to Wolkirk, it is difficult to establish where historical truth ends and where popular myth begins. As one of the most feared figures of his time, legends about Wolkirk began spreading even before the Valterrian. Stories about him being born with a blade in his hands, slicing his mother open from the inside, or about strangling his own brothers while still in the cradle, soon spread out of control. Wolkirk never did anything to dispel these stories, however.
What little is actually known about him is what he left written in various journals, or reported by witnesses who spoke with him. Wolkirk was born to an upper middle class family of Suvan. His life was remarkably easy, and Wolkirk himself stated that he never experienced abuse, trauma or lack of affection. He was simply born a cruel, remorseless killer.
Wolkirk's extraordinary skills emerged during his years as a conscript in the formidable Suvan army. His martial prowess, endurance, relentless drive and merciless attitude to fighting were praised by his superiors, and he was on his way to becoming a decorated officer. A bloody incident put a stop to his career one night, when he slaughtered two dozen comrades in the aftermath of a tavern brawl. While Wolkirk should have faced court martial, resulting in his execution, he was saved by an influential general who covered up the incident but forced Wolkirk to become a "state assassin", a brutal killer working for the Suvan Empire.
Over the years, Wolkirk eliminated hundreds of marks on behalf of Suvan, ranging from overly ambitious army officers, traitors, spies, Alahean personalities and whoever he could kill for his own personal pleasure. Noting his spotless track record, the Suvan top brass eventually assigned him to his most difficult mission yet - assassinating the Emperor of Alahea Kovinus and his family. The Emperor was protected by his Court Mage, the Eyktoli wizard Sagallius Hrinn, who was just as legendary as Wolkirk, and a confrontation between the two became inevitable.
Wolkirk and his assassin party attacked the Imperial family during a fox hunt. At the end of the battle, the woods were littered with smoking craters. Wolkirk managed to kill Kovinus and his wife, but failed to get to their only daughter, Kova. He was banished into the Void by Sagallius, who opened a gigantic Portal and absorbed a sizeable part of the forest with him. The strain caused Sagallius to sink into overgiving, turning him into a dangerous, manipulative madman.
As for Wolkirk, his dying body was approached by Uldr in the Void. The god of the undead offered him a second chance and even greater powers if he would serve his cause. Wolkirk was quick to accept, since Uldr's plan consisted of killing everyone and the two shared a desolate, common vision.
