Experience Points
From Mizahar Lore
This article is about a rule of the game. |
Experience points are both a way the Storytellers of Mizahar can award players for their writings and a method players can track their progress with skills and magic development. Experience points, sometimes called XP, are awarded by approved Storytellers at the completion of threads. Within a Domain, a Domain Storyteller (DS) or an Assistant Storyteller (AS) can award XP. A Regional Storyteller can award XP anywhere within their regions (including all the domains that fall within their boundaries). Site Admins can give XP throughout Mizahar.

How Experience Points are Awarded
Upon completion of a thread, please Private Message the Domain Storyteller or a Site Admin requesting experience points to be awarded. Sometimes a player can simply post in a domain's ooc thread in order to get the DS' attention that the thread is ready to be awarded. It will take a little time for the person you request an experience award from to read the thread in its entirety. Don't be afraid to let the DS know what you'd prefer (I did this thread for some longsword experience which is why I used my sword so much!). And don't be afraid.
If the person you PM'd or posted to in their OOC thread does not respond promptly, feel free to Help Desk Ticket for an experience reward. Please give the Domain Storyteller 3 - 7 days to review the thread before asking someone else to award the XP. Often people are busy and it takes time to read threads entirely.
How Many Experience Points Gets Awarded
Each thread is worth anywhere from 1 to 5 experience points per skill or discipline. Threads can be awarded more than one type of XP. For example, a Morphing mage changes their shape multiple times within a complex thread and also uses their weapon for a lengthy battle scene. They could easily be awarded 1 - 5 XP for Morphing and then 1 - 5 XP for using their weapon; a longsword. If they negotiated something in that same thread they could receive negotiation XP as well. There is no post count requirement per thread, nor is there a length requirement per post. However, all those who award XP are looking for depth of writing, creative use of skills, and numerous other factors when awarding XP. The more effort a player puts into a post, the more reward they will reap.
Advice to Characters
- Always Track your XP with links in your Character Sheets.
- Always provide a link to your thread in a PM or Post where you request XP Awards from someone. It's a great deal faster if they don't have to 'find' the thread.
- Let the DS know what your goal of the thread was. (Meditation XP? Tumbling XP? A combination of both?)
- Don't count XP until XP has been officially awarded.
- The greater effort you put into your posts the more XP you will recieve.
- Creativity and originality weigh heavily on a Domain Storyteller's XP Decisions.
Advice to Storytellers
- Read the thread completely. Our players put time and effort into writing threads and deserve to have them read thoroughly.
- Be prudent. Use common sense when awarding XP.
- Be punctual. Don't make a character wait for their experience points. You should award XP within 3 - 7 days of receiving the request.
- Post all XP awards publicly in the last post of a thread.
