Appearance
Bearing an ugly scar over his right eye and a clean shaved head most people find Alero to have a naturally intimidating appearance. It does not help that his blue eyes seem to always hold an icy glare for anyone they land upon. Combined with his towering height, a body that shows the result of years of training and work as a Syliran Knight, and a low and gravely voice Alero gives off a rather uncomfortable aura.
Alero's choices in apparel do not help him appear any softer. When on duty he wears the light version of Syliran Knight armor, his belt decorated with daggers and the various items for his Glyphing. Off duty he wears dull colored utilitarian clothes of whites or browns.
Personality
Many people compare Alero to a rock upon their first meeting. Cold, hard, and seeming to contain no real emotion. He is a man of few words and what he does say is straightforward and to the point with no attempt at subtlety or tact. There are no subtle grays to Alero's perception, things either are or are not, and any attempt to persuade him otherwise meets with dead glares and disgruntled frowns.
Even amongst those he considers friends, only a handful amongst the Knighthood, there is little difference in his attitude or manners. The difference lies in the fact that his friends are those who have earned Alero's respect, and who respect him and his belief that to keep Syliras strong the Knights must be harsh. Kind words and gentle encouragement only result in weakness in Alero's mind, and any Squire or Knight serving under him accepts this quickly, or find themselves asking for a transfer. Those who stick with him are strong, and fiercely loyal as Alero asks just as much of himself.
Biography
Alero was born and spent his early years in Zeltiva under the harsh tutelage of his Father, Welford Tynar. More of an apprentice than son Alero spent many years learning the magics of Flux and Glyphing to create scrolls to enhance people's strength for heavy labor. Though talented in the work Alero found it left him unfulfilled, and clashes with his Father grew more frequent and aggressive.
Finally at the age of 16 Alero left home to find something worthwhile in the world. Not wanting to face the wrath of his Father Alero bartered for passage on a merchant caravan heading towards Syliras. Alero had heard much of the great city of peace, and hoped that there he could find some work and satisfaction far away from his Father. Also part of the caravan was a Squire, Nelson, returning from his Knightly Quest to retrieve a long lost book regarding Sylir. Nelson was young, optimistic, and friendly, and took a shine to Alero almost right away, determined to help the teenager lighten up. As they journeyed on the road the two started to develop a friendship, and Alero started to loosen up ever so slightly.
A little over halfway into the trip the caravan was attacked by bandits, and Alero joined in the fight wanting to help his friend Nelson out. The battle was fierce, but Nelson and the guards of the caravan had years of experience and training on their side. Alero however had no combat experience, and quickly found himself outmatched by a single bandit despite his Flux enhanced strength. The bandit laughed as he gave Alero a nasty gash over his right eye, and taunted him about slitting his throat. Nelson came to the rescue, eventually managing to strike the bandit down, but the Squire received a nearly crippling cut to his left leg in the process.
Despite Nelson's assurances for the rest of the trip Alero blamed himself, particularly the more relaxed and less harsh attitude Nelson had been encouraging in him, and so Alero retreated even further back into his stoic mental fortress. The ideals of the Syliran Knights had appealed to Alero however, and so shortly after arriving in Syliras he began the process to become a Squire.
Alero's determination and focus to have nothing he considered a "weakness" pushed him quickly through his time as a Squire, and he completed his Quest quickly and efficiently. As a Knight his harsh attitude and actions rubbed many people the wrong way, and left him often sent on missions by himself that would take quite a time to complete.
Eventually Quilin Trema saw the benefit to Alero's ways, and so Alero was finally promoted to Sergeant Knight in the Summer of 404 AV. It took much time, even more frustration amongst the Knights assigned to him, but eventually Alero formed a solid wing under his leadership that respected and honored him. With a reputation of being as hard as Isurian steel they are often sent to do very difficult and dangerous missions, and, thanks to Alero's leadership, they almost always come back successful.
